The Olmecs were the first people to use cocoa. This civilization, of which few traces survive, developed around 2500 B.C. in the present state of Tabasco, in Southern Mexico. Nowadays in this region there are still about 50,000 hectares of cocoa plantations of essentially Trinitario quality that is sold all over the world. For many years the Chocolate of BruCo, in collaboration with the local university, has been committed to recovering ancient clones of the Criollo variety, generally considered the king of cocoas. According to ancient writings even Emperor Montezuma consumed about 40 cups a day. This project will allow the Chocolate of BruCo, in the medium term, to have direct control of this extraordinary variety at the source, so as to offer chocolate connoisseurs absolute excellence in terms of quality.
